The Buried Life, A Dedication

September 28, 2010 § Leave a comment

Y’all, I have four major crushes. They are best friends, Canadian, and dropped everything to pursue their dreams:

Tonight is the season two premiere of The Buried Life, just about my favorite show in the world. It’s charming, funny, and a bit eccentric. On which other show do you see four boys driving around a big purple RV? Their life list is quirky and mostly realistic. But the most amazing part is, they do put unrealistic items on the list, and they do everything they can to get it done! They played ball with Obama! The show is absolutely inspirational, as they not only get to see their own dreams come true, but they help strangers in realizing their dreams.

In honor of the return of this special show, I have decided to have a page dedicated to my very own Life List. It can be found on the left side of the page. I will be adding on to my Life List whenever I deem it necessary and then I will share my adventures here!

Baaaack to homework now!

Mecca & Coffee House

September 26, 2010 § Leave a comment

I went to Mecca yesterday.

I finally visited the new Forever21 at Baybrook. It was everything I hoped for and more. My head is still reeling from the fact that this space was previously used for a department store. The store itself was huuuuuuge. Two stories and a million sub-sections. It had so much stock… Basically everything on the website and I even saw things from months ago.

What you can see in this is only about 1/4 of the first floor. The only minor downsides to this Forever21 are that it’s really hard to find specific items if they caught your fancy online or whatnot, and that the sale section is kind of dowdy and small at the moment. Hopefully, that’s only because the store has only been open for a week. Anyways, I was a bit overwhelmed the whole time and spun around in circles trying to find my way around, so I only picked a couple of items to try on (the fitting rooms are MUCH more desirable than the ones at the old store), but unfortunately, nothing seemed to fit quite right. I couldn’t leave without getting anything though:

The cutest belt ever… And the plus side is that it goes with absolutely everything! It does run small though, so size up! The reason my shopping trip had to (sadly) be cut short was because I had to head back to school for Coffee House:

Coffee House is the cool little bi-annual event that my school’s Theater department hosts. People sip coffee and hot chocolate and nibble on pastries and goodies that are found at a cafe and sit down in comfy couches and seats to watch performances ranging from skits to songs. It was so incredible! I was blown away and completely impressed.

As hosts, these kids had the crowd in continuous fits of laughter.

A rousing rendition of Say My Name, performed by Chandler.

One of my favorite segments of the night was a talk show skit featuring the Joker, Batman, Luke Skywalker, and Darth Vader. It was absolutely hilarious– I was laughing so hard I could barely breathe 🙂

My friend Joel performed in multiple acts, both of which were amazing. I can’t even do his talent justice at all through any kind of words… His work is just incredible.

And, of course… The theater acted in a fabulous skit:

My gorgeous friend Megan 🙂

Awesome job, Theater! Everyone deserves a standing ovation for their talent and performances. It was a wonderful event and I enjoyed myself immensely. Of course, I had my camera with me (as I always do) and I had an epiphany of sorts and played with white balance and manual focus and such and snapped these:

Why, I don’t get distracted easily by bright and shiny things. Where did you get such a crazy idea?

Seniority

Hey folks!

One more day until the weekend! This week seemed to have dragged on foreverrrrr, but it was Senior Week at my school so all the costumes and outfits certainly brightened up the mundane days. I don’t have most of the pictures in from the week yet, but here are a couple:

In Art History with my extremely entertaining friend Jzavon.

These glasses were everywhere today to celebrate Nerd Day.

With my best friend Mollie 🙂 We’ve been friends since the first week of high school, so it’s been four very long, very hard, but very very awesome years together!

And, to top it all off:

California rolls and asparagus for dinner! Healthy and yum.

Gleeful Capacity

How precious is Glee?

Now, last night’s episode wasn’t too exciting or anything, but I was once again blown away by everyone’s amazing voices and theatricality. Of course, there were some parts that I thought were a bit too unrealistic (Quinn and Santana having a major catfight but then cheering on a new Glee Club member moments afterwards?) and it dragged on for a bit at points, but still, I have a feeling that this season is going to be even better than the last, if that’s even possible. The characters are all infinitely more developed and layered and we’re getting to see so much more of them. I’m so excited that Ken and Brittany have bigger parts. Brittany just cracks me up!

ANYWAYS.

I had Greek yogurt for the first time today! It was kind of weird at first, but I finally decided that I am a fan. Especially since each little carton offers a whopping 14 grams of protein. The texture was a bit difficult to get used to, in my opinion, but I actually like the slightly tangier flavor compared to normal yogurt.

Dinner was quite scrumptious. We had chives, egg, and shrimp filled dumplings which were amazingly delish. And my mom and I treated ourselves to something sweet:

Breyer’s Strawberry Cheesecake ice cream with bananas! Trust me to load up on the frozen goods on the first day of fall. This was a tad too sugary in my opinion though, so next time, I shall balance it out with milk!

See ya!

(1) Day of Summer

September 22, 2010 § Leave a comment

I hope everyone had a great last day of summer because we’re not going to see it again until next year! Personally, my summer was one of the best I’ve ever had. It was extremely busy and chaotic what with traveling every three to five days. China was spectacular, like always, and I had the best time catching up and spending quality time with my extended family. Then, I hightailed it to California and enjoyed three amazing, absolutely eye-opening weeks at Stanford where I learned so much about myself and about the world in general.

But alas, it’s time to start a new chapter. Autumn! Hot drinks, scarves, thicker clothing, cooler weather (!), holidays, all things fluffy and warm, leaves, color, oh my! Oh, and of course…

Boots! I admit I got a bit of a head-start with these, but it’s so itty bitty (ONE DAY!) that we shall disregard the details. I love these babies and I managed not to seem like a crazy freak wearing boots in the summer, especially since I live in Texas, by pairing them with a frock and tights.

Top 5 Things I’ll Miss About Summer:

1. Shorts

2. Sandals

3. Beaches, pools, fountains, all things aquatic.

4. No homework.

5. Sleeping & eating & playing when I want, how I want, with whom I want.

Aaaaand…

Top 5 Things I’m Excited About for Autumn:

1. We are ever so much closer to June 2nd (my graduation!).

2. Fuzzy socks & boots

3. Outerwear

4. Hot drinks (am I so cheating by copying stuff down from my above statements?)

5. Black Friday. (And Thanksgiving.)

Bye Summer!

Food.

Because I am swamped in Macbeth topical journals and economics notes, I’m going to cut the commentary today and just present a weekend’s worth of fabulous food. Enjoy!

Breaded tilapia, mushrooms, and potato wedges. (Don’t panic, I ate veggies too!)

Soba noodles with an egg, snow peas, and lean pork. Nom, nom.

Salt and pepper cabbage, a lone potato, Walnut & Shrimp in alioli. My NEW favorite food ever 🙂

Same shrimpies as above. I am in love. Oh, and greens. Meh.

Forever21, Bigger & Better

September 19, 2010 § Leave a comment

The big shopping news in my part of town is the grand opening of the new Forever21 store in Baybrook Mall. There was an average-sized store location in the mall already, with a ForLove21 just on the other side of the shopping arena. But, that wasn’t enough for Houstonians apparently, because they converted an old department store into a new Forever21 store!

Hundreds of people started lining up outside starting at 5 PM the night before. It bordered on Black Friday-crazy! From multiple people, I’ve heard that the store is enormous and the stock is amazing. I myself haven’t made the trip yet, my mom promised me to take me on Friday after school if I’m on my best behavior this week.

A few things that I’ll keep an eye out for:

Tulip skirts are original and complex enough to just wear with simple tops. Such an easy way to look chic on a lazy day!

What can I say… I love my high-waisted skirts like none other. This print and color is adorable and fresh.

I’m really into this top! It looks great paired with denim shorts, a skirt, or jeans and a blazer. Here’s a shorter version:

I sort of like the idea of the first one better, but I have a feeling the second might go with more things. We shall see in the fitting room!

Here’s a cute tunic! I wish it was shorter and the waist wasn’t cinched because then it might go with more things. I can still imagine these with leggings or tights though and some supercute footwear.

I’ve been on the lookout for floral prints for a very, very long time. I really like the versatility of this dress… It’s exactly what I imagine to wear under a denim jacket or by itself with tights.

And finally, this dress. It’s a bit similar to the previous frock. I’m wary that it’ll be too short as Forever21 dresses sometimes tend to be, but once again, we shall find out in the fitting room!

Soooo excited!!
